天然顔料として有名なイタリア・ウンブリア地方特産の土を焼成して暗褐色にした絵の具「Burnt Umber」。上出の油彩はこの色1色のみを用いて描かれる。水は時の経過をイメージさせる。

Painted using one colour, Burnt Umber, a dark brown paint made from fired clay from the Umbria region of Italy, which is famous for its natural pigments. The water evokes the flow of time (past and future) and the brush strokes are often used in a Chinese calligraphic manner.
